Dark Matter
Dark Matter started when Claymore was 16 years old and met Mad S. who was 18. They both had the goal to become professional dancers and would train 6 hours a day, 5 days a week after school at the local teen center. All the practice worked! Destiny Claymore ended up being a popping/waving soloist in a dance company (alongside Russel Ferguson, winner of SYTYCD) and Mad S. became a teacher. One day after practice they went to Mad S. makeshift studio and Clay sang (as a joke) but Mad and his friends loved it. After that, Dark Matter was formed.
Now, Dark Matter is a Hip-Hop and R&B duo based near Boston,MA that uses breakdancing, singing, and rapping in their live performance. Struggles with trauma, mental illness, and poverty inspired them to use their craft to speak out. Making something unique was cool too.
The duo is known for its harrowing tales, introspective and sometimes dark songs. Dark Matter believes that in tackling our dark secrets head on, we can learn to conquer pain and the past, become better versions of ourselves, and learn to grow as one people.
Helping those who face mental illness, a history of abuse, or any negative self image is the main goal for Dark Matter, and the hiphop duo has taken its performance into recovery facilities and youth centers when they aren’t rocking the big stage.
