Award winning Swedish-American vocalist IVA performs music from her new EP “Traitor” as well as songs written on her travels to Stockholm, Nashville and Philadelphia.
IVA is that rare crossover artist, a singer-songwriter and bandleader, an art-song interpreter, and an opera singer. She has been steadily cultivating her unique sound since her early days as a conservatory student in New York. Compared to artists like Aimee Mann, Natalie Prass, and Florence and the Machine for her heartfelt songwriting and powerful, etherial voice, she’s been tapped as “Who’s Next” by M Musicians Magazine, touted as “supremely talented” by Guitar World’s Acoustic Nation, called “a remarkable talent … the real thing” by TriStateIndie, and featured in Billboard Magazine as an artist to watch.
Originally trained in opera at Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music, she began performing on television (Conan O’Brien) and off-broadway shows and started writing her own material. She signed with New York label Vurse to record her self-titled debut album before moving to Sweden on a Fulbright scholarship for classical music. While in Sweden she released “Ivolution” with Universal, launching her onto national radio and TV, all while she was making her debut at the Royal Opera of Stockholm. She returned to the U.S. to form her own band, releasing “Leap” in 2015 to NPR and tastemaker stations around the country. Her current project, "Traitor", is due for release in the fall of 2018, with producer Jaron Olevsky at the board (Amos Lee's music director) and Spacebomb's Trey Pollard on string arrangements.
In 2015 the Vasa Order of America named IVA “Swedish American of the Year” for her contributions to cultural exchange between the two countries. Past honorees include actress Ann Margaret, lunar astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and Nils Löfgren of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band. She is the youngest honoree to date.
