The Creative Music Series Presents
From Boston and Western Mass.
One Night, Three Bands of Free-Form, Cutting-Edge, Unrestricted Improvisations…
Unrehearsed and creative music ala Free-Jazz, Free-Rock, Electronics and Experimental Soundsthat are “serious fun” you just don’t hear often (enough), liberated from any stylistic and melodic shackles.
Important musicians and concepts contributing to the Boston and Beyond free-form music scene for many a year—not often in the limelight—they incorporate ideas and sounds taken from contemporary music that doesn’t fit on the same stage necessarily as “traditional” avant garde (i.e Jazz), the “next” generation as Ms. Kane expresses; so they deserve one themselves in Boston tonight!
NEKSYS
NEKSYS is a post-rock, post-jazz improvisational trio focusing on the moment, the musical nirvana of now. Eric Zinman, Mike McCaw and Bob Moores seek to expand the horizons, the ears and the minds of each listener mixing the familiar and the unfamiliar in a heady sonic stew. NEKSYS plays a music of contrast and metamorphosis rather than theme and variation. Layers are submerged and resurfaced rising and falling in a three part exchange often sounding more than 3 musicians.
Eric Zinman (drums, synthesizer)
Bob Moores (trumpet, elec. guitar, electronics)
Michael McCaw (elec. guitar)
JMDE Trio
Elements of free jazz, Chinese folk, whirled music and ambient sounds.
Trumpet infused soundscapes, dappled with percussion, electronics, field recordings, ethnic folk. Influences: Miles, Bjork, Jon Hassell, etc.
Eric Dahlman (trumpet, overtone and throat singing, electronics)
Michael Knoblach (multiple percussion)
David Williams (flutes)
Jimmy Zhao - (erhu, bandhu, other Chinese instruments and viola)
Bonnie Kane
“I view my work as part of the next generation of the avant-garde - or at least, an evolutionary branch - formed from equal exposure to the avant-garde, hard core and the psychedelic: listening to Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, and Captain Beefheart, while simultaneously going to Butthole Surfers and Dead Kennedys shows; opening for White Zombie, The Boredoms, and Nik Turner, and playing the Improvised and Otherwise, What is Jazz, Brno and No Jazz Festivals. I can present my work to you as noise, free jazz, psych rock, free improv, jam band, bio-composition - along with a bunch of other labels as needed. I view my work as part of the next generation of the avant-garde - or at least, an evolutionary branch…”.
Bonnie Kane: Tenor saxophone, flute, electronics, entrepreneur (own record label), producer (own free-form music series)
