After her "spellbinding" (NPR) debut record, trumpeter Steph Richards follows up with the release of Take The Neon Lights (Birdwatcher records). An avant/jazz expedition of grit and brilliance, this project is takes sounds of NYC and explores a spontaneous prose of ugly beauty. This show celebrates the release of this new record with artists Steph Richards (trumpets), James Carney (piano), Sam Minaie (bass) and Andrew Munsey (drums).
Having “steadily established herself as one of the most engaging experimentalists” (Free Jazz Collective), Steph RIchards has recorded with pioneering artists ranging from Henry Threadgill, Anthony Braxton and John Zorn to Deerhoof, St. Vincent and Yoko Ono. A trumpeter whose “skillset explodes every category,” (WBGO), she has performed across the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe, and her composed works have premiered on stages at Carnegie Hall, the Blue-note and Lincoln Center. Steph Richards is a Yamaha artist.
