Janette King
King is a producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ based in Montreal, Quebec. Janette’s unique sound blends together soulful vocals, upbeat production style and honest lyrics to create a truly captivating listening experience. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Erykah Badu, Kelela and SZA, Janette is sure to strike gold with her upcoming album - set to release in 2019. On top of this, King’s mesmerizing style is what won her first place in Montreal for the 2017 CBC Searchlight competition. The positive energy and creativity that Janette King embodies is what makes her music and shows unforgettable.
Janette has performed in bands such as Sophia Danai, The Boom Booms and with two time Grammy Award-Winner Chin Injeti (Eminem, Dre. Dre, Pink). She has played at various music festivals including Shambhala, Montreal Jazz Festival, Pop Montreal, Victoria Ska Fest, Halifax Pop Explosion and Mural Festival Montreal. Janette has also shared the stage with Fetty Wap, Toots and the Maytals, Barrington Levy, Shaggy, and Cody Chesnutt.
Modern Painters
Modern Painters is an autobiographical coming-of-age myth chronicling the Sartrean situation of a present-day American youth. Prodded ever-forward in a world characterized by competing dogmas, nihilist hedonism, and a deconstructionist “unmasking of” a society once steadfast in its ways, Painters is concerned less with the contemporary state of being-in-the-world than with the process of the creative act within it.
Questions mulled over include (but are not limited to): ‘How might one assume authorship over thoughts and actions that are, at base, biologically predetermined?’, ‘What is the proper balance between one’s individual volition and a respect for the evolutionarily-conceived requisitus culturae?’, ‘Is it still appropriate to respect traditions which prevailing technologies have afforded us the opportunity to transcend?’, ‘Is it even possible?’, and ‘Is an existence without said ritual a viable one?’
