On Displace, his latest album and first for Ropeadope, the Finnish-born, Brooklyn-based guitarist Olli Hirvonen introduces a highly personal, pathbreaking vision of guitar heroism. Neta Raanan Group
Neta Raanan is a tenor saxophonist and composer raised in New Jersey. As a teenager, Neta was drawn to the mysterious black and white photos of Bird and Dizzy, Thelonious Monk and Lester Young that seemed to always have a place in the record stores of New York City. With the encouragement of her parents she began attending Jazz workshops all over the east coast, as well as frequenting local venues like the Village Vanguard- being exposed to artists such as Paul Motian, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and others. Neta completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at Berklee College of Music where she was inspired by the musical concepts of her peers , as well as being in the presence of tenor saxophone royalty including George Garzone and Joe Lovano.
