Ilya Blazh Quintet

Ilya Blazh presents his quintet composed of stellar musicians and his long-time collaborators. They are going to perform original compositions as well as tunes written by Woody Shaw, Nat Adderly, Cole Porter, and The Jazz Messengers. Ilya Blazh Quintet: Jason Palmer - trumpet, Art Baden - tenor saxophone, Kevin Harris - piano, Soso Gelovani - double bass, Ilya Blazh - drum set.

Jason Palmer

Jason Palmer (trumpet) is one of the most in-demand musicians of his
generation. He has performed with Roy Haynes, Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Smith (the organist), Wynton
Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Turner, Jeff
Ballard, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Common, Roy Hargrove, Lewis Nash.

Art Baden

Art Baden (tenor saxophone) was born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and began playing piano, his first instrument, at age 4. He received full scholarships to attend the Hanze Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Netherlands, and a year later, the Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, he studied with Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Ralph Peterson and Frank Tiberi, and received a Bachelor of Music degree. Baden placed third in the Michael Brecker International Saxophone Competition. He is an ambassador for Remy saxophones and has performed at clubs and festivals around the world with artists including Joe Locke, Ralph Peterson, Evgeny Pobozhiy and Alex Sipiagin. Currently Art is pursuing his masters degree at the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute in Los Angeles.

Kevin Harris

Kevin Harris (piano) plays a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary music that seeks to celebrate the musical influences of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, intersecting with Johann Sebastian Bach, Scott Joplin, and the folkloric African rhythms of the Caribbean.
Fred Hersch talks of Harris as one who "plays and writes with flair and real soul", and DownBeat Magazine writes that "Harris' compositions deal with themes of strength, love, courage, and self-awareness. It's a heavy task he's set up for himself, and he meets the challenge gracefully."

Soso Gelovani

Soso Gelovani (double bass) is from Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2017 He graduated from Berklee College of Music where he had been mentored by George Garzone, Hal Crook, John Patitucci, Gary Willis, and Victor Bailey among others. Soso is a versatile musician and has performed or recorded with such artists as 14 GRAMMY Award winner Paquito D’Rivera, Omar Hakim, George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Hugo Fattoruso, Beka Gochiashvili, Domi Degalle, The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra and SALIO. He has played throughout his native Georgia and has also performed in London, Vienna, Boston and New York. In 2020 Gelovani received a Master's degree from Longy School of Music.

Ilya Blazh

Ilya Blazh (drum set) is from Rostov-on-Don, Russia. At the age of 5 Ilya began his musical studies on piano in Jazz Music School n/a Kim Nazaretov, and at the age of 7 he fell in love with drums and started taking drum lessons. At the age of 16 Ilya graduated from Jazz Music School n/a Kim Nazaretov with honors and moved to Netherlands to continue his studies at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen. A year later he auditioned for Berklee College of Music, and after receiving a full tuition scholarship he decided to move to Boston. At Berklee, Ilya was a part of Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra, Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, Terence Blachard Xtet, and Global Jazz Institute; he has played with Nicholas Payton, George Garzone, Melissa Aldana, Kevin Harris, Noah Preminger, Gregory Groover, Jerry Bergonzi and Dave Liebman; performed at the “Toronto Jazz Festival”, “Monterey Jazz Festival”, “Siena Jazz Festival” and “Novosibirsk Jazz Festival”; broadcasted for “WBGO Live Checkout”; appeared on 7 studio albums; and has played a weekly residence at “Wallys Jazz Club” with Jason Palmer Quintet.
