Uriel Rogers, bassist and principal composer and arranger, along with his band of extraordinary musicians present a musically diverse evening of dynamic arrangements and compositions combining Jazz, R&B, and Pop with a unique twist.
For more than a decade, Uriel M.J. Rogers has sought to redefine and push the boundaries of music and he has no intention of stopping. This fact is evident in his compositions, arrangements, and his playing.
Born into a musical family on the beautiful island of St. Thomas, USVI, U.M.J.R was exposed to music at a very young age. At the tender age of two, he was playing drums in church. By his fourth birthday, his mother bought him his first bass guitar. Although he has always had a love for everything music, it wasn't until junior high, under the tutelage of his band director Neils Gooding, that Uriel really fell in love with the bass and its role in music.
Since then U.M.J.R has expanded his musical palate and facility on multiple instruments. His unique sound is a combination of many genres. Gospel, R&B, Funk, Reggae, Calypso, Hip-hop, Compa, Zouk, and much more have all played a major role in the way Uriel articulates thoughts and ideas on his instrument and when writing music.
Understanding the role of the bass player in different genres has landed Uriel opportunities to play at the Kennedy Center, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, the Berklee Performance Center, and The Paramount Theater, to name a few.
Whether on stage, in the studio, on paper, or behind a console, Uriel M.J. Rogers' goal is to reach people through his music. He believes in a quote by Hans Christian Andersen that says "Where words fail, music speaks."
