Meet The Composers Session, a Boston-based improvisational ensemble. Their influences circle the globe; from traditional Jazz to Latin, Middle Eastern styles to a newly composed work. 

Their music reflects their individual journeys as they come together to share their musical vision and common language.

Susan Reed, Violin

Susan is a contemporary violinist, vocalist, storyteller, recording artist, author and educator from the Boston area. Fluent in many styles, Susan interprets the world through sound. She combines her musical artistry with storytelling, crafting original shows that celebrate our humanity. Her conviction that music has the power to broaden people’s understanding of the world round them. Susan is a Cleveland Institute of Music graduate and performs in her band, Tatu Mianzi.

Dan Weiner, Guitar

Dan is an active freelance musician, Dan has performed throughout the New England area since moving to Boston in 1979, playing in jazz groups of all sizes and styles. Berklee College of Music graduate. Dan has performed with Eartha Kitt and popular female impersonator Jim Bailey, and he is a frequent side-man with the White Heat Swing Orchestra (featured on the Dick Tracy soundtrack).

Shimon Ben-Shir, Bass

Music educator, and Berklee College of Music graduate. Shimon has immersed himself in the New England music scene, playing in a wide range of bands covering diverse musical genres. He is the leader of The Shimon Ben-Shir Group, with considerable performances in many notable venues throughout the Boston area. Shimon's rich compositions and his albums received numerous favorable reviews in jazz magazines around the country.

Phil Neighbor, Drums

Phil has been playing music since his teens where he gained experience playing in shows, Dixieland groups, and German bands. Phil studied Percussion, Jazz, and Composition at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Phil has played with a host of different bands in many genres both in Cincinnati and in Boston. Phil has performed and/or recorded with groups as diverse as: The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, Dave Birkin's Hot Shots, the Sam Davis group, The Coots, the Jeff Robinson Trio, and the Funky White Honkies, to name a few.
