Israeli percussionist Nadav Friedman had become an uncompromising voice of multi-instrumental virtuosity. In recent years he had become a sought-after musician in the US after bringing influences of Middle Eastern and Israeli Jazz to the Boston scene. He had studied with masters of oriental percussion as well as legendary jazz musicians to bring this melting pot of creativity to a boil.
This concert will feature all original compositions, combining intricate rhythms with heart-warming melodies, from Nadav’s upcoming album “Songs for Empathy”. The album draws on the ancient philosophical traditions of Buddhism, Judaism, Sufism and Hindu to try and bring forth greater empathy between our fellow humans, sharing the world at this time. The compositions deal with issues as homelessness, ignorance, hatred and misinformation to try and invoke a sense of love and oneness with others.
Drummer - Percussionist Nadav Friedman had become an uncompromising voice of multi instrumental virtuosity. While mastering in Jazz Drum Set through bachelor’s degree in Jerusalem Academy of Music and a Master’s at the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston, Nadav had also become a sought after Percussionist. He explores alongside traditional masters, playing Middle Eastern, North and West African, South American and Indian traditions. He professionalizes on ancient percussion instruments such as the Frame Drums, Dohola and Tar. Over years of experience, Nadav had created an original playing style, bringing percussion and its traditions to the improvised freedom of a drum set. His playing is often described as groove oriented and virtuosic, with fresh and ancient drum sounds that make him an important member of many groups of different genres, successful in Israel, USA and Europe. During his time in Jerusalem music scene, he co-founded the North-African Andalucian Orchestra “HaMadrasa”, exploring Algerian and Moroccan golden age music. He also co-founded the Soltz jazz trio gaining critical acclaim by music critics and radio stations in Israel, and performing internationally in Australia and Europe. The trio participated in the “International Exposure Festival” by the Israeli Foreign Affairs department and the Jerusalem Jazz Festival. Nadav had performed with musicians such as Dave Holland, Jason Moran, Arturo O’Farril, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, Somi, performed his originals and gave masterclasses at the Panama Jazz Festival. He now resides in Boston, completing his studies at NEC, playing the NEC Jazz Orchestra and leading a group playing his originals from the upcoming album “Songs for Empathy”.
