He graduated Yale in 1970 magna cum laude as an Intensive Lit major, flunked out of law school. hit the road with a brillliant young California chanteuse and traveled for 14 years as "Stormin Norman & Suzy," an act that won fame and an avalanche of media, major label record deal, national & international touring... before passing into myth. Went on to become Assistant to the Assistant to the Mayor of New York City. Became father of 3; changed direction, became teacher and principal in inner city schools in New York and Connecticut, meanwhile composing endlessly, hundreds of songs - some "masterpieces" in the words of noted Boston critic Tim Jackson. Traveled for 9 years with klezmer virtuoso Andy Statman, playing Israel, Poland and "half the hasidic weddings" in Brooklyn. Conducted hundreds of music workshops across New York City for multiply disabled. For the past 10 years bandleader/pianist/composer for Real Stormin Norman, a jazz rock ensemble performing regularly in New York and Boston. Has released 9 albums of original music with another due out this winter.. His style is firmly grounded in blues, jazz and New Orleans piano.
Norm is excited to be returning to Lily Pad, his home base in Boston for many years. The show will be recorded for a live album. At this concert he will be accompanied by Mat Kastner on acoustic and electric guitar, and Andrew Livingston on upright bass.
