Boston premiere of material from Elan Mehler's new album "There is a Dance" which had its album release at Birdland last week. Featuring a stellar band of Jeff Platz on Guitar, Max Ridley on Bass and Max Goldman on Drums
Elan Mehler
Since 2007, Elan Mehler has released eleven albums as a leader, featuring musicians such as Bill Frisell, Dave Douglas, Becca Stevens, Francisco Mela and Tony Scherr. He's released records on Brownswood Recordings out of London, Challenge Records out of Amsterdam and Newvelle Records in NYC.
Jeff Platz
Platz has recorded for a variety of jazz music labels including Skycap Records, Evil Rabbit, Konnex, Glitch, and Setola di Maiale records. In 2015 Jeff performed solo electric guitar improvisations in collaboration with choreographers Janet Aisawa and Beth Soll in the Spring Forward dance festival in New York City.
Currently, Jeff hosts a monthly improvised music series in Providence Rhode Island. The Modern Sounds series features players from the Boston and New York City areas presenting original modern compositions and free improvisations.
Max Ridley
Ridley has shared the stage with renown musicians such as Jeff Coffin, Kenny Werner, Tia Fuller, Ralph Peterson, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jack Dejohnette, Bruce Molsky, Perico Sambeat, Walter Smith III and Jerry Bergonzi. He has performed in venues such as the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Umbria Jazz Festival. He has played many different styles of music all over the US, Canada and Europe, traveling by plane and staying in hotels, as well as by van and sleeping on couches and floors. Today he is active in New England as a sideman, leader and co-leader for many different groups, both on stage and in the recording studio.
Max Goldman
Max Goldman spends much of his time touring Europe, South America, the US, and Canada with a diverse lineup of artists.
In addition to the Danny Fox Trio, Max has performed and recorded with Becca Stevens, Tim Berne, Old Time Musketry, Midnight Magic, Nomi Ruiz, and Eleanor Friedberger. He has been called “a seriously propulsive force” by the Chicago Reader, and his drumming has been described as “beautifully melodic, even pianistic” by the New York Jazz Review.
