Every piece of Radio Suba’s music starts with an original jazz theme providing the foundation for improvisation. The jazz theme turns into a musical bridge combining the jazz theme with a traditional song or melody from the Arab world. Most of the pieces are based on the folk dance style in the Levant region called Dabkeh.
The art of Taqseem is also demonstrated in Radio Suba by combining the free jazz improvisation with Taqseem adding a new meaning to the musical and dance experience. In addition to instrumental improvisation, Basel sings some Mawaweel which are vocal improvisation based on the Arabic forms of poetry, and the ancient musical scale system, Maqam.
