An evening of flamenco dance and music featuring Jani Rodrigues (dancer), Alfonso Cid (singer), and Adrián Alvarado (guitarist).

Jani Rodrigues

Jani Monet Rodrigues is a flamenco dancer from and based in Boston with a diverse dance background. She began studying flamenco in New York City, and in 2008 was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Cultural Traditions Flamenco Program at The School at Jacob’s Pillow. In 2009, Jani moved to Spain where she continued her flamenco journey with renowned artists such as Rafael Campallo, Adela Campallo, Andrés Peña, Pilar Ogalla, Ángel Atienza, Isabel Bayón, La Lupi, María Juncal, and Carmela Greco. Jani has performed in New York City, Málaga, Seville, and Boston as a solo artist, as well as in collaboration with dance companies. Her flamenco performances have taken her from small venues to sharing the stage in productions such as Bizet's "Carmen" with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra as a featured flamenco dancer. Jani is also a choreographer, movement director, actress, and educator.

Alfonso Cid

Alfonso Cid, flamenco singer and flute player, was born and raised in Seville, the heartland of flamenco music. He has performed at the Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena in Seville, one of the most significant flamenco venues in Andalusia. He was awarded two scholarships to attend the intensive summer course at the Cristina Heeren Foundation for Flamenco Art in July 2007 and 2008. He had the honor of recording backing vocals in the song titled “Mi Santa” by popular Latin artist Romeo Santos featuring the great flamenco guitarist Tomatito. Alfonso has toured extensively throughout the USA, Latin America, Israel and Europe. In 2017 and 2018 he toured Spain, France and Italy with the jazz/flamenco band New Bojaira by pianist Jesús Hernández from Granada. This band has just released a new album titled “Zorongo Blu”. He released his first CD titled “Flamenco de vuelta e ida” in 2006 with the flamenco fusion project “Gazpacho Andalú”. He has also released an album with his own Spanish indie rock band “Dientes de Caramelo” titled “Pulpo” (Octopus) in March of 2012 as well as three singles throughout the summer of 2015.

Adrián Alvarado

Adrián Alvarado (São Paulo 1968)

Spanish guitarist, composer and arranger born in Brazil.

In 1989, he moved to Arcos de la Frontera, where he studied with El Carbonero de Jerez, José Luís Balao and the great Manolo Sanlúcar. He spent several years in the region, acquiring great experience in flamenco singing and dancing accompaniment.

In 1993, he moved to Madrid where he expanded his interests to Brazilian music, jazz and middle eastern music, being part of several groups of choro, jazz, world music fusion, etc.

In 1996 he moved to Berlin where he consolidated as a soloist with concerts throughout Europe and Asia.

In 2002 he returned to Madrid as a session musician, and worked with great artists such as Pastora Soler, Mônica Molina, Sasha Soköl, Encarna Salazar, Moncho y Tamara.

In 2008 he was a member of Farhad Darya's band, the greatest Afghan pop artist with several tour seasons in Europe and Asia.

In 2015 he moved to Panama to teach at the Danilo Pérez Foundation and worked several years both in the Panamá Jazz Festival and the Panamá Flamenco Festival.

In 2018 he moved to New York, where he has had an intense collaboration with Jazz legend Santi Debriano, as well as Mamiko Watanabe, Craig Handy, Robby Ameen, Tommy Campbell  a.o. From this project they will release an album under the name Arkestra Bembé.

In the flamenco scene, he has worked with singers Alfonso Cid and Bárbara Martínez, and dancers Elisabeth Torras, Xianix Barrera and Ricardo Osorio.
