Motherwise
Motherwise is a five-piece indie rock band hailing from Boston, MA. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of sources, the band’s unique sound creates a captivating experience both live and on recording.
The group was formed in their second semester at Berklee College of Music and features Kris McCarthy on guitar, keys and vocals, Soph Reyes on bass, Daisy Soper on drums, Kalika Reece on trombone, and Rianna Kopcho on guitar. The band’s debut record, Shark Teeth, was released in February 2022 and was featured on Sound Of Boston’s Listen Local mix.
SHARK TEETH is available on all streaming platforms. Produced by Darcy Milligan, this tender and heartfelt record was recorded entirely DIY in Quechee, Vermont.
Big Fish is the debut demo of Motherwise’s sophomore album in progress, available exclusively on bandcamp.
Yael Hayem
Warm heart, dark brain. Yael Hayem bears the truth, and does so with creative imagery, strikingly memorable lyrics, and captivating voice. Her idiosyncratic vision and punchy lyrics are magnetic; Her sound fuses haunting, cinematic qualities with electric guitar funk that mesmerizes listeners.
The 20-year-old independent artist began writing music during the pandemic as a form of catharsis, and has learned to direct her acute sensitivity towards her lyrics. After taking a gap year and spontaneously buying a cheap guitar in a foreign country, she can be found frantically scribbling down Alternative/Indie songs in her notepad at Boston University. Her hunger as a coming-of-age artist who navigates both existential and introspective ideas is truly apparent in her stream-of-consciousness songwriting style.
Hayem draws inspiration from artists who explore deep emotional complexity and a wide range of musicality, such as Radiohead, Fiona Apple, and Jeff Buckley. She creates sounds that take unpredictable twists without ever remaining stagnant. Her debut EP “Questions of Neurotic Youth” will tackle the existential questions that dominate the youth’s mind in the digital age. As a music nerd, Hayem shares her finds online, and has gained fans on her social media platforms who enthusiastically and consistently engage with her content. She enjoys forming lasting connections with her fans and continues to charm audiences with her sense of humor and amicability.

Her cutting edge aesthetic and visuals create an emissive universe for her songs. Kayla Silverman has performed in venues in the Boston area such as The Lilypad, Brinstar and Warehouse XI, which attracted more than 250 audience members.
