Musical explorations, sublime moments, new sounds...join us for a night of experimentation, improvisation, and journeys into the unknown. The Evan Palmer Quartet is an improvised music group based in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music defies genre categorization, combining elements from improvised Black American music, avant-garde, jazz, classical and folk traditions.
Evan Palmer (they/he) is an improviser, bassist, oboist, composer and educator based in Boston, Massachusetts. They specialize in music in the Black American tradition, particularly improvised music. Evan is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where they received a Bachelor of Music in Bass Performance and studied with John Lockwood, Francisco Mela, Bruno Råberg, Billy Kilson, Linda May Han Oh and many others. They have performed and recorded with many artists including Francisco Mela, Phil Grenadier, Jim Robitaille, Leo Blanco, John Dalton's Spheres of Influence, Erik Van Dam, and Shinya Lin. Evan's band performs their own compositions as well as music by Andrew Hill, Eric Dolphy, and other great composers.
