Kalliope Reed Quintet performs a full program featuring all their commissions and arrangements by living Mexican composers!

The Kalliope Reed Quintet is the first professional reed quintet in New England. Founded in 2019, they are already joining the evolution of the reed quintet with many commissions and unabashedly ambitious programming. As a contemporary chamber ensemble and one of the first 50 reed quintets worldwide, their mission is to expand and diversify the reed quintet repertoire and to further strengthen the role of contemporary chamber music in the 21st century by presenting unique, engaging and educational programs to communities locally and worldwide.

Persevering through the many unexpected challenges of 2020-21, Kalliope commissioned 15 new reed quintets and arranged many more. Despite the pandemic, 2020 developed into a busy year with a summer season featuring six online concerts with four world premieres, all live streamed from the Regent Theatre Arlington. In 2021 Kalliope performed a hybrid in-person/online summer season featuring seven world premieres across seven concerts, including presentations at the International Double Reed Society conference and International Clarinet Association's Clarinetfest. They recorded their first album, featuring all original reed quintets and expected to be released spring of 2022.

Their 2022 season featured a spring season filled with new concerts, commissions, and collaborations. Highlights include a concert with Brookline-based pianist Cholong Park, a performance in the Cape Cod Cultural Center in for their women’s history month exhibit  Empowerment vs Exploitation, an all Latin American concert at the Somerville Museum in collaboration with their new exhibit El Dorado Chocolaterie, and their first international tour to Mexico. Expansions in their in-person student outreach include concerts at the Boston Community Music Center, Arlington High School, and a student composition workshop and performance at the University of Rhode Island New Music Festival. Their second album Cañas sin Fronteras is underway with expected release in early 2023.
