Vance Provey

A trumpet soloist with a long history as a composer and leader. His approach is rooted in the jazz idiom using strong melodic and rhythmic approaches, but now mostly in a more free improvisatory space. His work with Bill Dixon at Bennington College in The Black Music Division is a guiding influence.

Vance draws from an aesthetic that is very different. His use of long extended tones pitted against very short clusters of notes is a yin yang in of itself. This style of playing creates a strong sense of tension and release in his band's over all sound. 

Joe Giardullo

I grew up playing R&B music, went to college by accident (changed my life), discovered the jazz of the 1960s and became inspired by the music of the “new thing” (Coltrane, Shepp, Ayler and beyond). I bought my first soprano in Woodstock in 1973  a curved Conn) and started on a path that is still in front of me today.  And a lifetime of associations with some of creative music’s giants: Steve Lacy, Joe McPhee, Milford Graves, Carlos Zingaro, Bill Dixon, Bobby Bradford, Anthony Braxton, Andrea Centazzo, and more.  But things grew stale and in 1977, he packed up and moved to Amsterdam, Holland.

After a short period Joe returned to live 100 miles north of New York where, after a few years, he slipped into a 10 year hiatus from public performance, although he continued to play in private. Then he met up with (legendary) saxophonist/trumpeter Joe McPhee one night at a club. That meeting in 1991 marked the beginning of a continuing collaboration. And it has also reintroduced audiences in the US, Canada and Europe to Giardullo's music. Since then, Joe has been active in the US and Europe with so many of the most regarded musicians.

Eric Zinman

At the forefront of creative music for more than 20 years—studied at the New England Conservatory with Ran Blake, Jimmy Giuffre, and George Russell, in addition to the great Bill Dixon—Eric Zinman’s piano playing is known internationally and has been described as a “fleet and appealing touch”. Rooted in the language of the avantgarde, his vision embraces the role of the piano in the orchestras of the future.

Harvey Sorgen

“I have also written and performed pieces for film and the stage, including a solo percussion piece for the New Day Repertoire Theater’s version of “Antigone”. One aspect of my joy has been in the workshops I give around the world in jazz ensembles, improvisation, percussion master classes and audio production”.
