Michael Tarbox writes songs anchored in rock ‘n roll, blues and country. The Chicago Reader calls his singing “ageless.” His gospel-tinged guitar playing, tough as Texas barbed-wire, brings it all together. His November 12 Lilypad show is an acoustic solo date.
Tarbox is best known for his work fronting The Tarbox Ramblers. The group started as a loose configuration playing Tarbox’s versions of songs by people like Charlie Patton, The Carter Family and other great artists who remain obscure if not forgotten entirely. As Tarbox grew as a writer, the band began including his songs in its live shows. They demonstrate Tarbox’s allegiance to his early influences and an ability to draw on those influences to create something new.
