Once upon a time, a little boy named Josh was root-toot-tooting on his horn, skipping down the street, his curls bouncing with each cobblestoned step. At the corner of Rhythm Street and Blues Avenue, he encountered another little boy named Trevor, who was anxiously transcribing an old guitar tune he heard on the radio by a fella named Stevie Ray. Trevor was tearing out tufts of his hair trying to uncoil the twisted melodies until Josh came along. Luckily, a third little boy named Dominik was also skipping by and found a small error in Trevor’s transcription, asserting in a rather patronizing fashion that it was actually a Dbm7b5. But although the three had figured out the notes, they had no rhythm! It was at that moment that a little girl named Marisa was rolling by on her bike, tapping a beat on the handlebars. The three little boys stopped her to interrogate her about the groove of the song, and she gave them some rhythm. They were still missing just one thing - the smoky timbre of a melody that weaved between the notes of the guitar. Another little girl named Quinn was sashaying away, singing at the top of her lungs and scaring away the birds, and her voice exactly filled in the gaps of the song the other four were building. After playing together for years, multi-instrumentalist Josh Talbot and guitarist Ray Wynne formed the jam band Tailwind in 2021 to involve their Boston-based musician-friends in their craft. They have since been joined by drummer Marisa Gaetz, guitarist Trevor Ewald, vocalist Quinn Brodsky, and keyboardist Dominik Martinez. Drawing influence from funk, rock, and soul music, Tailwind cultivates a unique sound, backing Quinn's soulful vocals with funky rhythms and riffs. A recent addition to the Boston-Cambridge music scene, Tailwind is already generating local excitement. Since winning MIT's 2022 SpringFest Showcase, Tailwind is gaining headway by playing at a variety of local venues and is excited to release their debut album in the coming months.
