David Harris has distinguished himself as a trombonist, pianist, and composer/arranger in a multitude of musical styles. Born in University City, MO., a 1981 graduate of New England Conservatory as a classical trombonist and a freelance artist in the Boston area since 1980, Mr. Harris associates with a wide variety of musicians performing jazz, pop, and international folk music. David was the founding trombonist for the Klezmer Conservatory Band, as well as trombonist/arranger for the klezmer music ensemble Shirim, noted for their “Klezmer Nutcracker” and klezmer version of Peter and the Wolf- “Pinkus and the Pig”, both of which he co-arranged. Mr. Harris is an associate professor at Berklee College of Music. As a jazz composer, he has twice won the Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship for music composition. David is longtime trombonist and composer/arranger for the avant gaarde big band Jazz Composers’ Alliance, with whom he performs and records. David has been featured in soundtracks for TV, commercials, Woody Allen’s “Deconstructing Harry”, a klezmer soundtrack for the movie “Stranger Among Us”, the soundtrack for the movie “Opposite of Sex,” as well as recording on over 40 albums. Mr. Harris has performed around the world, including the Berlin Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, the Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar, Carnegie Hall, the Philadelphia Pops, the Smithsonian Institute, and jazz clubs such as the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory.
St. Louis, Missouri native, saxophonist, composer, radio disc jockey, actor, director, playwright, and poet, Jeff started the band the Jeff Robinson Trio in 1995 as a bridge between music and theatre. The “Trio” accompanied poets at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA, and had a weekly residency lasting more than 20 years. The Jeff Robinson Trio has performed with some of the best poets in the United States of America, including Patricia Smith, Amiri Baraka, and Quincy Troupe, amongst thousands more.
Jeff is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied with saxophonists Bill Pierce and George Garzone. He’s studied theatre with Oleg Tabakov, Artistic Director of the legendary Moscow Art Theatre Company, and Shakespeare scholar Kristin Linklater. Jeff’s one-person show about jazz legend Charlie “Bird” Parker entitled “Live Bird” has appeared off-Broadway and in Charlie Parker’s hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. “I knew Charlie as a man, not simply a musical genius. His radio show “Poetry Jam” was aired on WMBR 88.1 FM in Cambridge and was streamed live online. He has recorded for Rounder Records and is working on a new recording with his trio.
