In the program, the members of the Grace Beat Quartet will present their new music as well as selections from the Gugak Jazz Society's GreeKorea album. Born out of the challenges posed by the pandemic, the GreeKorea album beautifully displays the harmonious interweaving of their musical journeys across the United States, Korea, and Greece. Collaborating with long-time friends George Lernis and Burcu Gulec from Anatoliama, this Boston and Korea-based ensemble delivers a performance that celebrates the transformative power of music, the richness of cultural exchange, and the inherent grace in their musical expression.
The Grace Beat Quartet, a project team of the contemporary Korean jazz ensemble Gugak Jazz Society, brings together four talented musicians from Boston and Korea. Mina Cho on piano, Insoo Kim on Korean percussion, Yeongjin Kim on drums, and Max Ridley on bass create a harmonious blend of infectious rhythms and captivating melodies. Drawing inspiration from the concept of grace notes in music, which emphasize individual and cultural stylization, the quartet explores a diverse range of jazz-infused sounds from around the world.
