Since elementary school Nay $peaks has been an avid hip-hop and R&B fan. She was inspired by sporadic freestyle sessions in the car with her mom and dad where they would translate what they saw in the Boston community into spoken word poetry or raps. Her earliest influences are Monica, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, and Erykah Badu. As a very spiritual and intellectual young Black woman, she makes it a priority to narrate the youth's perspective and experience through her work. While she is a member of the Words Speak Life collective, Nay has also been navigating the open mic and poetry circuit in New England–most of the time being one of the youngest; yet strongest voices in the room. She looks to evoke the emotions of her listeners through honest storytelling. Nay $peaks unwavering faith and passion continue to push her on her musical journey. She views her art as a “calling” and states that “it’s not about finding the right words, more so letting the words find me.”
