Mike Jarjoura - Sitar | Barinder Banwait - Tabla

The artists will present renditions of some evening and seasonal ragas of North Indian classical music, exploring exquisite melodies and moods set to rhythmic cycles of 7, 10 and 16 beats.

There will also be a tabla solo showcasing a selection of intricate rhythms from the Punjab, Benares and Farrukhabad schools of tabla.

Mike has studied and performed classical Hindustani music on sitar since 2003.  Teachers include Dr. Peter Row, sitar player Ms. Mita Nag, khayal vocalist, Warren Senders, and sarod player, Anirban Dasgupta.

Barinder has been an earnest student of tabla since 2014, having earlier been introduced to the instrument by his uncle at the age of 4. Primarily studying in the traditions of Punjab, Benares and Farrukhabad, teachers include Surdarshan Chana, Gurdain Rayatt, and Pandit Parimal Chakrabarty.
