buttercup Coming of age in the late 70’s, the golden age of guitar based rock and pop music, and the introduction of the 4 track cassette recorder, Jim Buni began recording performing music with various bands in 1983, most notably with the band buttercup which began in 1993. buttercup aspired to create thoughtful, sentimental, unironic American Pop music inspired by the soundtracks of their youth, heard on car rides, or on their clock radios late at night. Sonically the music echoed an American sweetness and yearning, lyrically the songs are seasoned with a punk, or Dylanesque spirit of disaffection toward all of it. Their first release “Gold” began as a cassette tape for distribution at their regular shows at Cambridge’s Plough and Stars. It was quickly and unexpectedly noticed by independent record distributor Ron Schneiderman who released it as a cd on his in house imprint Spirit of Orr Records. He would release 5 more albums working to get them noticed in the press. https://www.naturemachinemusicpublishingcompany.com/some-buttercup-press From 1997-2000 buttercup were most active, recording in proper studios around town and becoming a fixture in a thriving Boston and Cambridge club scene. The band would disperse in 2000 as members began families and followed paths in and out of music.
