Driff Fest 2024

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

Driff Fest 2024: Two bands and three duos Boston-based independent record label Driff Records announces its 7th Driff Festival, on

Friday November 22nd, at the Lily Pad in Cambridge. The festival celebrates a multi- generational line up of Boston-based improvising musicians, featuring two bands and three duos. The label is also presenting two freshly released albums.

Pianist and composer Pandelis Karayorgis is presenting his new group ATMOS, adding Providence-based saxophonist Noah Campbell to his trio with bassist Nate McBride and veteran drummer Nat Mugavero. The group focuses on phrasing, space and dialog in their free improvisations. Campbell is also featured on a forthcoming Driff release with Karayorgis and bassist Brittany Karlson.

Saxophonist and composer Jorrit Dijkstra will present his new group BLINK, which extends his Porch Trio (Nate McBride, Eric Rosenthal) with Boston stalwart Eric Hofbauer and young talent Gabe Boyarin on guitars. The band uses a microtonal tuning system between the instruments, which gives it a mesmerizing and dreamy sound, full of collective melodic and multi-rhythmic layerings.

Three duos of Boston area improvisers of multiple generations will complete the evening: Charlie Kohlhase (saxophones) and Bill Lowe (trombone, tuba), Kelly Bray and Greg Kelley (trumpet), Lemuel Marc (trumpet) and Ted Reichman (accordion).
