Melanie, Jimmy and Patrick bring audiences on a whirlwind musical tour of Irish American music and songs in Irish (as gaeilge) while teaching you how to make your very own Brigid's Cross. This event is for our girl, the exalted one, St. Brigid, Imbolc Baddie, Celtic Goddess of the Forge, She who made butter out of nothing and looks after all us poets and farm animals. So come on down and have a Brigid's Day BLOWOUT with us. Crafty event with cross making like the 1970s but it is present day. Or is it?
Melanie Beth Curran is a songwriter and traditional artist breathing life into Irish American melodies. She forges soundscapes from field recordings and crafts lyrics of resistance. Her writing shines from the gritty corpus of Irish American New York City, drawing unexpected connections to the Pacific Northwest, to her ancestral Co. Donegal, and to the American life she leads as a travelling storyteller. Melanie Beth Curran is a bright fire and word weaver. She is a bardic harbinger of a folkloric future.
Curran was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Bretagne, France to write Creative Non-Fiction about the region’s traditional music and dance cultures in the digital age. She was awarded The City Artist Corps Grant and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. She has taught or lectured at Parsons School of Design, Montclair State University, The University of New Mexico, Boston University, and Iona University. Her writing is published in JSTOR Daily, The Brooklyn Rail, Brooklyn Magazine, and in her zine series on Irish American topics.
Curran was raised on Bainbridge Island, Suquamish territory, in Washington State. She lives in “The Irish Riviera”, Rockaway Beach, New York. Her Irish family comes from Glenswilly, County Donegal.
