Exactly one year since their debut showcase at the Rockwood, Monk’s Temple Records is back for another night of psychedelic hip hop and r&b. Founded by producer Gasoline Monk, and run collectively with flagship artists Burn Herm and Fanta Vibez, the Boston-based label has quickly built a reputation for delivering a brand of music steeped in spirituality and rooted in the building blocks of hip hop, in lane that’s uniquely their own.

Gasoline Monk is the founder of the label and producer behind most of the releases. After a half-dozen beat tapes and a few years in Denmark running the jazz band The Monk Batucada, Monk returned home to form Monk’s Temple Records and empower the careers of dozens of Boston creatives. He will be DJing the show.

Burn Herm released his first of several introspective, poetic, spiritual hip hop albums in 2018 and has since become one of the highest tier lyricists in his city. In addition to his work on the mic, Herm produces and co-runs the label.

Fanta Vibez first came to America as a child refugee from Liberia. The winner of 2023’s WMA for Best R&B Artist, her lo-fi, neo-soul influenced sound puts its stamp immediately on the brain of all first-time listeners.

Terry Borderline marries a stark interest in unknown histories and universal truths in his spiritual raps. 2024 saw the release of his EP Mystic Messenger, his first project on Monk’s Temple Records. He is the leader of the Mass Spiritz collective, a group of emcees, singers and producers in Boston dedicated to positivity through music.

Phinelia is a legend in the Boston hip hop scene, releasing his first album in the mid-2000s and remaining prolific ever since. Stark reality lyricism over dusty beats, he brings something irreplaceable to the Monk’s Temple showcases.
