David Arteaga

1969-2020

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague, David Arteaga, late last week.

David was an exceptionally kind and generous person, and a wonderful musician and community builder.

In 2014, David founded the Sunday Night Lilypad Jazz Jam which he ran and hosted for the past six years. Over that time David worked to build an open and inclusive jam for musicians of all abilities which quickly became an essential part of Boston’s jazz community and a cornerstone of the Lilypad’s programming.

David’s band, the David Arteaga Quartet, was the regular house-band for the Jam, performing original compositions and a selection of standards. Like David, the group was distinguished by its fine musicianship, thoughtful improvisation and exploration, and sense of joy.

We are forever grateful for David’s contribution to the community and his support of the Lilypad. We were honored to have had the opportunity to get to know him and to work with him. He will be greatly missed.
