Join the Mark Tipton Quartet for some high-energy progressive jazz, including originals & modern classics, plus polyrhythmic Haitian Creole Fusion! Members of the MTQ met at NEC, have recorded together, and have toured the Northeast and performed together as far south as North Carolina. Featuring Mark Tipton - trumpet, Kai Lance - guitar, Ben Friedland - bass, and Paul July Joseph - drums.

Trumpeter/Composer/Educator Mark Tipton is a Maine native who has lived and worked in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston. He's currently the Lead Instructor for Jazz and Contemporary Musical Arts at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick (MA), and a Doctoral Fellow at the New England Conservatory of Music. He has studied privately with Jason Palmer, Jerry Bergonzi, John McNeil, Billy Hart, Joe Morris, and Ken Schaphorst, and has recently performed and/or recorded with Dave Holland, Ran Blake, Michael Formanek, Jason Moran, Anna Webber, Don Byron, Seulah Noh, and Tom Varner. His works include jazz compositions, contemporary chamber works, multi-disciplinary installations, and silent film scores. This July he'll be touring Turkey and Cyprus with Grammy-nominated jazz pianist/composer Mehmet Ali Sanlikol's jazz quintet. He plays lead trumpet in the Seulah Noh and Kira Daglio Fine big bands, and also performs with the New England Jazz Collaborative. Mark's new album of original jazz works, Vernacular Stretch, for octet and vocalists, will be released this summer.
