Poetry and Music / Irish and Otherwise
Words: Geoff Chasin
Music: Stella Owen and Michael Shepherd w/ Special Guests
Geoff Chasin believes that reading poems can give one beautiful dreams. Poetry can also serve as a vehicle of discovery, not only of the world but, more importantly, of oneself.
“Man is the universal symbol that contains all things.” Each of us has been given access to the entire universe through our senses, and the entire universe of our internal life through, what? Our intellect, our insight, our feelings, impulses, epiphanies? Plato tells us that the unexamined life is not worth living; and what better way to examine it than through poetry. Chasin is a candidate for Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies, Creative Writing and Literature at Harvard.
Stella Owen is a classically trained pianist with a Masters in Music from Northwestern University. Her love of all genres of music, and of ensemble playing, has compelled her to branch off in many directions: she plays keyboard with a number of orchestras including the Cape Cod Symphony, plays four hand piano in many venues, sings with the New World Chorale, plays jazz clarinet with Tuesday Night Special, and has been known to get down occasionally with some local rock and roll bands. Working with “Under the Influence” is yet one more experiment in her ever-blossoming musical career.
