durianhead and Benedict Koh's quartet will be offering up an evening of avant-garde music across a dizzying array of genres and performance practices. With an all-star cast from NEC, Benedict Koh's quartet offers up a freewheeling, introspective set of free improvisation and avant-garde jazz; while durianhead's set of experimental laptop electronics weaves IDM, glitch, noise, plunderphonics, footwork and more into a singular 40min set.
durianhead is a Boston-based Singaporean musician working with noise, glitch, ambient, drone and experimental electronics. Using self-made digital instruments, they explore the increasingly blurred lines between accessible and avant-garde; a singular and egalitarian third-stream voice wrangling every last bit of sonic detritus into monolithic walls of sound, color and light.
Benedict Koh x Caleb Schmale x Charlie Watson x Noah Mark: Benedict Koh (bass), Caleb Schmale (saxophone), Charlie Watson (trumpet) and Noah Mark (drums) form a quartet of NEC students that work within free improvisation and avant-garde jazz idioms.
